Recently Completed Data Center Addition Doubles Square Footage of State-of-the-Art Facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan

(Grand Rapids, Michigan) – US Signal today announced the completion of its most recent project, a 20,000-square-foot addition to its industry-leading data center in its home city of Grand Rapids, Mich. With Internet of Things (IoT) applications and the increased adoption of cloud computing, disaster recovery (DR) solutions, and IT outsourcing driving the need for increased data center space throughout the United States, the expansion project will help the Michigan-based IT solutions provider further expand its Midwest footprint to meet that need.

The expansion doubles the footprint of the existing data center, which opened in mid-2014 . It is US Signal’s first purpose-built data center in West Michigan and the third US Signal owned and operated facility in the state. The company also owns and operates data centers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

The project was initiated earlier this year to accommodate growth among US Signal’s existing clients and to support the region’s prospering business and technology communities. Tours of the expanded data center, as well as other US Signal data centers, are available by emailing [email protected]

Advanced Features for Efficiency and Security

The Grand Rapids facility was built from the ground up to meet and/or exceed industry Tier 3 requirements, including n+1 redundancy and multiple distribution paths to allow for no service outages due to maintenance, repair or replacement of equipment.  It incorporates some of the latest security measures, including biometric access controls that can auto-sense height to automatically position the units for iris scanning. An advanced CCTV surveillance system monitors and records activity on the interior and exterior of the building at 20 frames per second.

Like all US Signal data centers, the expanded facility helps companies meet many of their regulatory requirements, and is monitored 24/7/365 by US Signal’s Technical Operations Center. As part of US Signal’s strategically located, Midwest-based facilities, the Grand Rapids data center also enables companies throughout the region to take advantage of both geographic diversity and lower latency to their colocated equipment and cloud services.

Services include a wide array of customizable cloud and colocation solutions; advanced data protection services, and cost-effective, time-saving managed services. Professional services are also available on a by-the-project basis and include data center migrations and database projects.

Wholly-owned Network Serves as Differentiator

In addition to growing its data center footprint, US Signal continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of total IT solutions. With its wholly owned network comprised of 14,000 miles of lit fiber, access to over 225 data centers and POPs, Tier 1 peering relationships and metro rings in strategic markets, it is among the few companies that can minimize downtime and latency; ensure reliability, speed and security in its cloud and colocation services; and integrate secure, high-speed network services.
